Seeing the state of coffee pots in peoples homes can be shocking, many just rinsed and put them back into place. Coffee lovers appreciate a good cup of coffee and for those who do not take care of their pots and coffee makers they are ruining not only the life of the coffee machine, the taste of a good cup of coffee is lost as well.

Making sure to wash your coffee pot each day will ensure the taste of the best coffee you can brew and an enjoyable cup of that steaming hot brew. You should be careful with the coffee pot, most are very fragile, and putting your coffee pot in the dishwasher is a no-no. Coffee pots were not meant to go into a dishwasher. If the lid does not come off there is no way you can get the coffee pot clean by putting it in the dishwasher.

Make sure, before you begin your coffee pot is cool, if you put ice in a hot pot the glass will shatter The best way to care for the pot itself is to add about a cup of ice, 2 tablespoons of salt, and a few slices of lemons into the pot. Before the ice melts swirl the mixture in the pot using a back and forth motion for about 2 minutes, do not stir the back and forth motion will work much better. Doing this will keep you from using soaps in your coffee pot therefore you will not have to be concerned about having a soapy tasting cup of coffee. Let the pot stand until you finish your kitchen duties for the night, or for about 20 minutes. Discard the mixture and rinse your pot thoroughly. You are now ready to have a great cup of coffee in the morning.

Every three weeks you should run white vinegar through your coffee machine to remove water and other residue from the inside of the machine. Use one half cup white vinegar to 8 cups of water measured on the coffee pot. Let it run through, then run two clear pot water though the machine. If you have never done this before you will be amazed at the sediment that comes out of your coffee machine. This will clean your machine and help make that perfect tasting cup of coffee you are looking for, especially the one you look forward to in the morning before your eyes are completely open.
